Sator : Cutting-edge knowledge and training for transitions

Sator offers a groundbreaking approach to help businesses, communities, and citizens understand and take action on today’s major challenges, through in-depth training and visionary experts. A key tool for understanding and anticipating the transitions to come.

Where did the idea to create Sator come from, and what do you believe are the main challenges related to information overload and the complexity of today’s world?

Pierre Gilbert: We created Sator to address a need that wasn’t being met: a deep-dive format that truly allows people to understand the key issues of the major upheavals we are going through, with a systemic approach, and that is as enjoyable to follow as a series.

We also created this new format: 20 episodes of 30 minutes, centered around a visionary expert, which enables individuals to become well-equipped to navigate this fluctuating world—whether they are citizens, businesses, communities, or schools.

In this way, we counter short-format content, which saturates mental space without having a transformative effect, much less an empowering one.

The name Sator is also a nod to the importance of systemic thinking: the Sator square was the Templars' magical square. A palindrome that can be read in any direction, just like today’s issues, which can be viewed from all angles because they are all interconnected.

How do you choose the themes and speakers for your content to ensure an impactful and enriching learning experience?

At Sator, we come from the world of foresight. We leverage this sensitivity to weak signals that shape tomorrow’s big trends. We thus identify experts whom we consider to be visionary, sometimes well-known, sometimes... ones who would greatly benefit from being recognized!

Our themes are also designed to address major topics that could help us emerge from the current crisis: biomimicry, system resilience, water issues, intuitive intelligence, cognitive sciences related to transitions… Sometimes our themes may surprise with their forward-thinking nature, but we are convinced that they are the most valuable tools for those who know how to seize them.

Social connection is a central pillar of your project, especially through the internal social network dedicated to the alumni community. How do you manage to create a sustainable dynamic?

For many, Sator is the only space for qualitative exchanges on topics of passion. Each Sator course has its own exchange space, a sort of internal social network, between engaged learners and the instructor. This allows us to reconnect with the initial promise of social networks: bringing people together around areas of interest, rather than just simple social circles.

We’re now launching cohorts of learners, creating an opportunity for collective follow-up around each new course for those who wish to participate. We also organize in-person events, notably at the Climate House – our workspace!

What needs do you identify among businesses, elected officials, or citizens, and how do your courses meet their specific expectations?

Our courses are also designed for businesses, enabling them to roll out an internal training solution that is simple, original, enjoyable, and of high excellence, with excellent value for money... to build vision capacity on the key issues we face, but also to foster a strong sense of belonging.

We are, in a way, the next step after a Fresque, a 2-ton Workshop, or a CEC. We observe a clear before-and-after with the clients we work with (CEA, Decathlon, Caisse des Dépôts, etc.), with employees leaving our programs transformed and even more motivated to help make their organizations champions of resilience.

Could you enlighten us on your business model and the opportunities you wish to develop in the future?

Our business model is based on two legs:

  • A B2C model: anyone can register on Sator, for the course of their choice or for an annual unlimited access. For many, we are like an evening school that significantly raises awareness!
  • A B2B model: we sell batches of licenses to enable a large number of employees to develop vision skills, or managers/decision-makers. For them, we offer annual unlimited "leaders of tomorrow" access for €999. We are also Qualiopi certified and can deliver our files to large companies with internal platforms.

We are partners with the Climate House, the CEC, the Institute for Desirable Futures, CEEBIOS, some Fresques/workshops, and transition consulting firms, whose programs our training complements. This is the last component of our business model, with local authorities and schools, for which our Grand Courses are also very well suited.
